2023 is almost over, but there’s one more secret yet to be uncovered…until now. Perhaps this season’s most soft spoken, yet striking aesthetic has revealed itself…and boy did we not see it coming. Soft Goth Autumn isn’t just an aesthetic, it’s a way of being. It brings out all of the spooky and vintage elements that we love, but with a cool and mellow twist. It’s old-world sinister charm coupled with the trendy clean girl vibes of today. Who would’ve thought?

With the oxymoron that IS the soft goth autumn aesthetic, we thought we’d take some time to thoroughly explain each element which we feel is crucial to the soft goth autumn story. First and foremost, soft goth provides distinct color contrast and does so with intention. In a typical soft goth interior, you will find two or more dark, bold colors combined in stark contrast with one another. What you’d think would be a visual nightmare actually turns into a cozy, muted space when done correctly. It’s a known saying that dark colors can make a space seem smaller than it actually is. In this case, it’s a positive thing. The dark hues used in soft goth spaces are meant to draw you in and create a cozy escape. When featured with vintage touches, these colors simply cannot go wrong. Which brings us to our next element…

Vintage vibes are alive and well in the soft goth autumn aesthetic. From age-old fireplace framing to dim elaborate chandeliers, this vibe is one that makes you feel alllll the history. In a soft goth interior you can expect to find subtle characteristics from Gothic European cathedrals modernized and mended to blend in with today’s interior style. Pointed archways and tiled flooring reminiscent of the cathedrals of the 15th and 16th centuries are two sure signs of a soft goth home. Detailed whimsical frames, beaded lamps laced with string, and candles lit to mimic pre-electricity days are all objects to be expected from this aesthetic.

Moving right along, you might be wondering: Why has Autumn been included in this soft goth aesthetic? Well, the spooky and dark components of this style blend perfectly with the overall demeanor of the Autumn season. Not to mention the deep autumnal colors go hand-in-hand with the dark atmosphere of soft goth. Add some jack-o-lanterns, musty candelabras, and black cats to your soft goth space and you’ve got the perfect recipe for Soft Goth Autumn. It’s a Halloween lover’s DREAM.
