A Growing Team Shaping D.C., Maryland, and Virginia

B&G Blinds began as an installation subcontractor, known for dependable field expertise throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region. In 2019, the company expanded into direct project bidding, opening the door to larger commercial work and steady growth.

Today, they partner with leading general contractors and contribute to projects across K to 12 schools, multi-family developments, mixed-use buildings, office spaces, healthcare environments, and more.

A Revived Neighborhood Takes Shape

B&G Blinds partnered with Hamel Builders to provide shading solutions for Barry Farm Building 1B, now known as The Asberry. Located in Washington, D.C.’s Barry Farm–Hillsdale neighborhood, the mixed-use residential building brings 108 affordable rental units to the community, designed primarily for seniors aged 55 and older.

As the first building completed within the multi-phase Barry Farm Redevelopment, The Asberry represents a major step toward transforming the area’s former public housing complex into a thriving mixed-income community. Construction began in 2022 and reached completion in early 2024 under the leadership of the District of Columbia Housing Authority and Preservation of Affordable Housing, along with several supporting city partners.

The Fabric Solutions

To meet the needs of residents while supporting architectural intent, B&G Blinds delivered a coordinated shading solution using Draper hardware and Mermet fabrics.

E Screen™ 3% in Pearl/Linen in the living areas offered residents an affordable, clean and functional solution with a modern aesthetic.

GreenScreen Revive® 1% in Sand in the common areas was requested by the architect to add a visually appealing and sustainable touch to the shared spaces.

This combination allowed B&G Blinds to deliver shades that perform well day after day while maintaining a unified look throughout the community.

Partners Who Helped Bring the Vision Forward

B&G Blinds served as the sole shade dealer for the project, collaborating directly with Hamel Builders. For Building 1B specifically, the architectural design was led by EDG of Bethesda, MD. The larger Barry Farm redevelopment is a collaborative effort involving Grimm + Parker Architects and Mosely Architects, reflecting a strong partnership dedicated to revitalizing this historic neighborhood.

A Finish That Feels Effortless

At B&G Blinds, the team approaches every project with a simple goal: bring a breath of fresh air to the final stages of construction. By the time they arrive on site, general contractors, subcontractors, owners, and architects have all worked tirelessly to move the project toward completion. Their role is to help ensure the final stretch feels smooth, coordinated, and complete.

“We view delivering window treatments as more than just another task. It is the cherry on top. Our mission is to provide a seamless, hassle-free finish by delivering on time, on budget, and with exceptional communication every step of the way.”

Why B&G Blinds Chooses Mermet

For B&G Blinds, choosing the right fabric partner comes down to reliability, availability, and long-term performance. Mermet fabrics remain a trusted choice for that reason:

“Readily available fabrics that do not hinder lead times coupled with affordability, reliability and functionality.”

Pro Tip from the Pros

When selecting roller shade fabrics, B&G Blinds recommends starting with the end user. Consider privacy, glare control, and energy needs first, then narrow in on a fabric that supports those goals. Early coordination with the architect helps ensure openness, color, and function align from the beginning and keeps the project running smoothly.
