SunCoast Blinds Brings Coastal Comfort to a Naples Penthouse
When your home overlooks both the Gulf of Mexico and Naples Bay, sunlight becomes as much a design element as the view itself. For one Naples homeowner, the challenge was balancing floor-to-ceiling glass walls with year-round comfort and control.
With decades of experience and a reputation for white-glove service, SunCoast Blinds knew how to strike that balance. Led by Ben Crotteau, the family-owned company specializes in high-end window treatments that blend performance and design, perfect for Florida’s ever-changing light and heat.

About SunCoast Blinds
Family craftsmanship runs deep at SunCoast Blinds. Gene Crotteau founded the company in 1992 and built a loyal following through his commitment to quality and customer care. His son Ben got an early start in the trade, helping with installations during his summer breaks and learning firsthand what it takes to deliver exceptional results.
What began as a small in-home consultation business has evolved into a full-service studio serving both Bonita Springs, Florida, and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Today, Gene enjoys retirement while Ben continues to grow the SunCoast brand, keeping the same values at its core: integrity and a passion for getting every detail right.

A Design Philosophy Built on Education
At SunCoast Blinds, every project begins with what Ben describes as a hybrid approach that balances client preferences, light needs, privacy goals, and exterior appeal. Finding the right solution is a marriage of all those elements, and the team focuses on identifying which factors matter most to the client before recommending the ideal product.
“It’s common that we meet with clients who think they want one product, but the goal they want to achieve requires something else. It’s our duty as window treatment specialists to educate the consumer and explain which product is the best solution, while still satisfying the design they desire.”
This process, known as their “design through education” philosophy, helps clients understand the options and make informed decisions that achieve both the look and performance they want.
Naples Penthouse with a View
This 22nd-floor penthouse in Naples offers panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico, Naples Bay, and the city skyline. With glass walls surrounding the space, managing light was essential.

The team selected E Screen™ 5% in a white-on-white palette to complement the condo’s ultra-modern aesthetic while maintaining visibility and glare control from sunrise to sunset. Its fiberglass core provided the stability and light management needed for expansive Florida windows.

“The 5% fabric was chosen to maximize light control when needed, while not blocking the view. The fine, delicate weave of a fiberglass core yarn is perfectly suited for this application.”

Why SunCoast Blinds Chooses Mermet
There are two main reasons why Mermet is our top fabric choice. First, they’re made in America. Second, they use fiberglass core yarns that hold up to just about anything the Florida climate can throw at them.
We get intense heat, punishing UV rays, and salt spray from the Gulf of Mexico year-round. Mermet’s fiberglass fabrics deliver the performance and longevity needed for large-scale shades, or as Ben calls them, “monster shades.”
