Back to List

There’s something about fall in Western North Carolina that just hits different. The air gets crisp, apple cider donuts make their return, and the Blue Ridge Mountains begin to tease their famous fall colors. Our team took a day trip to Hendersonville to catch a preview of the season ahead and to see our roller shade fabrics in action at one of the most beautiful breweries in the region: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Mills River.
☕ But First...Coffee.
First stop: ShareWell Coffee Co. in nearby Flat Rock. It was the perfect rainy morning warm-up. We’re talking handcrafted lattes, cozy vibes, and locally roasted beans. Pro tip: the brown sugar cinnamon latte is basically fall in a cup.

🍎 Apple Season is Coming: Here’s What to Know
Hendersonville is already gearing up for one of its biggest fall traditions. The North Carolina Apple Festival takes place every year over Labor Day Weekend and brings four days of live music, craft vendors, food, and all things apple to the heart of downtown.
But the apples don’t stop there. Henderson County is home to more than 20 apple orchards, many offering pick-your-own apples, fresh cider, and fall activities for the whole family.
Some of our local favorites:
-
Justus Orchard: Sip on cider slushies, grab a hot apple cider donut on your way out, visit farm animals, and take in stunning mountain views.
-
Sky Top Orchard: Famous for its scenic hilltop location, weekend hayrides, walking trails, and an impressive variety of apples.
If you're searching for apple picking near Asheville, family-friendly fall activities, or the best apple orchards in North Carolina, Hendersonville should be at the top of your list. Even early in the season, Hendersonville offers mountain views and the kind of charm that draws visitors back each year.

🍁 A Fall Foliage Favorite
Although we day-tripped before the leaves began to change, the Hendersonville and Asheville area is known as one of the top destinations for fall foliage in North Carolina. Every year, travelers flock to the Blue Ridge Mountains to catch peak leaf season, which typically hits between late September and mid-October. Scenic drives, hiking trails, and orchard views turn vibrant with shades of red, orange, and gold, making it one of the most photographed seasons in the region.

🐻 Bear Spotting on Main Street
While we were in town, we also explored the Bearfootin’ Art Walk. This local tradition features large bear statues painted by local artists and displayed throughout Main Street. Designs range from floral patterns and bright color fades to landscape scenes and whimsical illustrations. It is a creative, walkable way to take in the town’s personality and snap a few photos along the way.

🥪 Lunch Break at Brooks Tavern
We stopped for lunch at Brooks Tavern, a local favorite known for hearty comfort food and a laid-back atmosphere. The menu did not disappoint. We went for the burger and the fish sandwich, both well worth the stop. One standout you can’t miss is their candied bacon, the perfect mix of sweet and savory. They also have outdoor seating, making it a great place to relax and take in the small-town charm before heading to your next destination.

🍻 Final Stop: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
We wrapped up the day at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in nearby Mills River. Surrounded by the mountains and flooded with natural light, it’s the kind of space that’s made for relaxing and for showing off some very hardworking Mermet fabric.
Inside the brewery, Mermet roller screen fabrics help:
-
Filter bright afternoon sunlight without blocking the view
-
Reduce glare so guests can fully enjoy the scenery
-
Maintain a comfortable indoor temperature year-round
It’s one of our favorite examples of what happens when performance and aesthetics work together. You may not notice the shades at first, but they quietly enhance the experience for everyone inside.
You can see even more of this beautiful install in our original project highlight on Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
