Hooked on the Look: Why We’re All In on the Fisherman Aesthetic

You’ve probably seen it popping up lately—bold sardine tins, beaded seafood bags, weathered textures, and cheeky nods to all things nautical. The Fisherman Aesthetic, one of Pinterest’s trend predictions for the year, has officially made its way from mood boards to real-life interiors.

This nostalgic yet fresh look channels old-school maritime charm: think sardine tins, rustic netting, sea-worn wood, and bold primary colors pulled straight from the docks. But make no mistake—it’s not your granddad’s tackle box. Today’s take feels playful, elevated, and unexpectedly cozy.

During a recent design field day (aka one of our favorite excuses to get inspired in the wild), we spotted a mix of punchy reds, zesty lemon yellows, and classic blues—from vintage sardine tins to lobster-printed pillows—and it practically designed the color palette for us. These bold, saturated hues instantly brought the Fisherman Aesthetic to life in a way that felt both nostalgic and fresh.

To anchor all that color, we turned to two of our favorite high-performance fabric options:

E Screen™ in Charcoal/Grey mimics weathered rope and netting, adding a subtle ruggedness that’s right at home alongside wicker, driftwood, and vintage seafood tins.

Elba Daylight™ in Obsidian adds visual weight and depth while grounding spaces filled with saturated seaside tones—like lobster red, navy, and citrus yellow.

If you’re looking to balance bold, colorful décor with neutral fabric selections, these Sherwin-Williams paint colors strike just the right tone. Inspired by our styled shoot—from sardine tins and lobster reds to natural textures and woven accents—this palette brings together warm earth tones, muted coastal shades, and rich neutrals.

Looking for even more color inspiration? The 2025 Summer Palette by HGTV Home® by Sherwin-Williams also taps into many of the same tones—sun-washed hues, citrusy brights, and earthy neutrals that complement the Fisherman Aesthetic beautifully.

Of course, not every take on the Fisherman Aesthetic has to lean bold and primary. During that same design field day, we stumbled across a beaded sardine placemat (shoutout to WorldMarket) that brought an entirely different energy—playful, colorful, and just a little unexpected.

With vibrant salmon pinks, teal greens, and citrusy orange details, it’s the kind of statement piece that adds personality without overwhelming a space. Paired with E Screen™ in White/Linen, the look stays light, airy, and full of coastal charm—perfect for sunrooms, beach house kitchens, or anywhere you want a softer, more whimsical take on the trend.

To complement the bright, quirky energy of this sardine scene, we pulled together a fresh set of Sherwin-Williams colors that echo the pinks, teals, and golden accents—without competing with them.

We’ve curated a Pinterest board to highlight the Fisherman Aesthetic—featuring coastal color palettes and design elements that inspired this blog. If you're into saturated tones, bold accents, or simply want a more playful take on seaside style, it’s the perfect place to keep the inspiration flowing.
