Back to List

At Mermet, we believe leadership is about more than titles—it's about showing up every day with purpose, integrity, and a drive to push the business and its people forward. This month, we’re spotlighting Chris Duerk, Managing Director, whose passion for teamwork and relentless pursuit of excellence have made a lasting impact on Mermet’s growth and culture.
A Competitive Spirit from the Start
Not many people know that before joining the world of textiles, Chris was a Division I soccer player, even representing South Carolina in the Olympic Development League. That competitive spirit still fuels him today—from the field to the trade show floor.

When it comes to big decisions, Chris shares one piece of advice that’s always stuck with him: “Sleep on big or tough decisions before making them.” It’s a simple but powerful reminder to lead with clarity and intention.
Motivation & Leadership in Action
So, what motivates Chris to bring his best every day?
“A passion for our people, winning, and making Mermet the very best it can be.”
His leadership style boils down to three key principles: Listen. Focus. Team. These words guide the way he leads, supports, and challenges his team to think bigger.
He recalls one early career moment that left a lasting impression—his first major presentation in front of a large audience:
“It bombed. I didn’t prepare or practice and made a fool of myself. That never happened again.”
A lesson in preparation, humility, and growth that’s stuck with him ever since.
Vision for the Future
Chris’ vision for Mermet is ambitious—and clear:
"To drive significant growth through fabric innovation, marketing innovation, quality, and unparalleled service. It’s about building strong customer relationships where we’re seen as trusted partners.”
That same forward-thinking mindset applies to how he encourages others to grow at Mermet:
“Work hard. Be an example. Ask your supervisor how you can grow and do more. Push for higher ground—force people to take you seriously, and the success will follow.”
A Moment of Pride
Among all his accomplishments, one stands out:
“Helping critically wounded veterans through the Mobility Campaign with The Independence Fund. We raised money to outfit four veterans with outdoor wheelchairs—helping better their lives after their service to our country.”

Beyond the Office
When he’s off the clock, Chris draws inspiration from David Goggins’ Can’t Hurt Me, a book that mirrors his drive and resilience. And while he brings sharp focus to his leadership role, he knows the value of pausing and resetting to stay grounded.
We’re proud to have leaders like Chris helping shape the future of Mermet. Stay tuned for more spotlights as we continue highlighting the people behind the fabric.
